The first day in Kenya, I went through the process that any Kenyan would go through to get an HIV test. It was late in the day and time was short, so Lucy and Cari and I had our counseling together. I was highly impressed at the therapeutic skills of the counselor.

This photo was taken overlooking Lake Nakuru. The pink you see on the water is actually flamingoes-LOTS of flamingoes! Lake Nakuru is world famous for the flamingoes that migrate there.

This little boy lived in a slum in Nairobi called Koro Gocho, where an estimated 260,000 people live in a square kilometer of space. He lives in a crisis center that cares for HIV positive children. Many HIV positive children are abandoned in Kenya.

This slum in Nairobi lies directly next to a garbage heap which is constantly burning. People in the slum scavenge the trash heap, hoping to find a scrap of food or something to sell.

This was the kitchen in Koro Gocho. Here, food is prepared each month for 800 people, costing ~ 1,000.00 American dollars. It was REALLY hot in there.

These kids attended the primary school on the compound. They sang for us, and I played the violin for them (they loved fiddle music!).

This family of hippos lived in Lake Naivasha. We took a boat tour and saw many birds (cormorands, egrets, herons, and an African Fish Eagle) as well as giraffes, water buffalo, water bucks, and warthogs.
